First Fondant
So I had some problems with the icing that I chose to use instead of buttercream. It was too heavy and slippery. But with the mir
ical of refrigeration I got it to work for me. This is a 6 in topper cake and cupcakes. It is for out Activity Day recognition night tomorrow. I used ribbon fondant roses for the cupcakes. I think it turned out really good for my first try. Ill take pictures of the setup tomorrow at the activity. I definatly learned a lot about the fondant. It dries A LOT faster than I thought it would. And I need to use a little shortning when starting to make it last a little longer and not crack. Oh and you can really reuse scraps after the second or third time without a lot of cracking and tearing. Putting the white layer of fondant on the cake was easier than I thought. There is one fold in the back but its covered by the green ribbon. I would definatly be a little bolder with the green color but oh well. I am pleased with the turnout.

Don't Forget this One!
Shelley made this cake for my Birthday! Isn't it sooo cool! It looked and tasted just like the real thing! She knows me well (and my obsession with hostess cupcakes). I loved it! Thank you Shelley!

Cakes, cakes, cakes!
Here are the cakes, Shell. I don't have one of the pink square hores cake with brown and pink flowers and brown piping and I don't have one of the Thanksgiving cupcakes either. Sorry. Here's the skateboard cake and Steven's....and my own birthday cake. I didn't make it. Jacob did. I just threw some store-bought frosting on it and threw some extra fondant flowers on top. The skateboard cake was kinda sloppy. The blue on top is not the right shape. The "O" in the name "Owie" is actually a popular skateboard brand logo from Element Skateboards. It looked a lot better in person. Jacob make the cake board out of MDF so that you could see underneath it. The wheels are fondant.

The "Terrible Twos" Cake...
So I had a hard time deciding what kind of cake to make for Trevor. I asked myself: "What does Trevor like??" Of course the first thought in my head was "Making messes." ..and then it hit me..."THE TERRIBLE TWOS!! It was so obvious that I'm surprised it didn't hit me earlier. I call Trevor my Beautiful Monster. Everyday he thinks up some way to make the biggest mess possible in the shortest window of time possible so I thought this cake was pretty appropriate. As you can see, the scene is of Trevor making one of his disasters. He's apparently put his stuffed animal in the sink and turned it on and now it's overflowing, put some keys and a phone in the toilet, unrolled the toilet paper and spilled paint everywhere. Trevor thought it was pretty hilarious. If I had all the time in the world, I would have make some royal icing for the water and had that spilling out of the sink and put it in the toilet but I was lazy so I just painted it blue. The little handles on the paint cans are the only non-edible part and were made out of a really thin wire.
