Enrichment Night

Here's the cake and cupcakes I did for enrichment night. The heel on the shoe looks weird because I dried it on a plate and the surface of the cake was no as even. OH WELL! I'm not obsessing about it or anything. You know me, it's not bothering me one bit. (Yah right!)
Here's the little shoe that I got for you beth, heather do you want one too?

Little girl's b-day

This was a cake for Lizzy's best friend, Clare. These two are inseperable. They had a purse party. Lizzy loved it. 1 hour before I had to deliver this cake (a couple houses down the street) Trevor decided that he now knew how to open the fridge and yanked the handle off the purse. That's why teh handle is a little crooked. The shoe is gumpaste/fondant mix. The pearl necklace is made up of fondant balls rolled in luster dust then strun on a thick thred using a quilting needle. The purse is cake covered in fondant. It was a white rasberry swirl cake with a creme broquet swiss meringe buttercream. Very yummy. The shoe and purse are kinda sloppy. So is the fondant covering the cake so don't look too closely. Also, the color of the flowers and the ball border did not turn out how I was expecting it to. It was supposed to be more of a bright pinkish burgandy but I just couldn't get the color right. It kept turning greyish purple. Oh well.

Gumpaste shoe & Purse...

I know, 3 posts in one day. I just keep forgetting stuff. There will be another one tomorrow, I bet.

If anyone wants to know how to do the gumpaste/fondant shoe, check out "Elisa Strauss's" book called "The Confetti Cakes Cookbook" from the library. The instructions are in there. I just made 2 enlarged copies of the page with the shoe template. The first one, I rolled out my gumpaste/fondant mixture (1/2 and 1/2) to the thickness that I wanted, cut out the shoe template, layed it on the gumpaste and cut it out with an Xacto knife. The second one, I cut out the insole of the shoe and layed it on some thinner rolled out black fondant and cut it out. I layed the insole on the shoe cutout that was drying on a pre-carved styrafoam block so that it would take the same shape. I free-handed the straps and used the rolling-cutter tool to make sure I had consistant widths. Then I used my rolling-embosser-tool-thingy from Wilton to make the stitching detail. While the shoe was drying, I hand-painted the zebra stripes on with a mixture of black food coloring gel and Vodka because the alcohol evaporates quickly.

For the purse, there is a video on Youtube that you can watch. Just type in "Purse cake" and it should come up. It's about a minute long but it gives you a pretty good idea of how to do it. I just used a 9" cake pan, cut it exactly in half and stuck the two halves together. Then I cut the corners at the bottom to get the shape that I have. I did a crub-coat on it and let it sit in the fridge for a while. For the strap, I cut two strips the same width and length with that roller-cutter tool from Wilton, stuck them together with piping gel, embossed it with the emosser tool and let it dry over-night on a jar to get the shape. Elisa Strauss also has instructions in that book of hers on purse cakes I think.

Happy Fondanting everyone!
