Road Kill

Here's the roadkill cake I did for our ward Hoedown. I won the "To Die For" award & a Rocky Road candy bar. I was in a big hurry when I did it and I couldn't find my vinyl mat to roll out my black fondant so there was a lot of sugar all over it ( I should've sprayed it with alcohol) Oh well! It was fun to make and the girls got a really big kick out of it. In fact, the kids at the party were so fascinated by it they kept picking at it and eventually started to deconstruct it as the night went on. Audrey got so upset she started lecturing them about not destroying other people's property and when they wouldn't listen she came bawling her eyes out to me....she is so sweet. So by the time the night was done he was missing his teeth, eyeballs, tail, 1 ear, tongue and both paws...the vultures had picked him clean...lol!

I'VE SWORN OFF DOING CAKES..... ;) hahaha.... but really, I'm serious...

The buildings are gumpaste painted with pipping gel and dipped in black sugar to give it the "sparkling at night" look. The big Empire State building is a dummy cake out of styrafoam due to timing (I had to do it before my Yellowstone trip) and structure concerns. I carved it, covered it in silver fondant then put the pre-cut and dried gumpaste sides on. I actually learned a TON from doing this cake. It was about 33 inces tall!
